Widgets

Adding widgets to my cite was a bit overwhelming for me. I got lost with this step, I believe it was because I got so caught up with customizing. However I enjoyed learning about this additional feature we have as an option to make our blogs more appeasing and interesting to its audience.

Header

Creating my header was the primary element I used to customize my blog. The InDesign software was first used to create the header and then it was imported into the blog. I decided to take three individual images and join them together as one. As I expressed in another post, the images I chose were busy and colorful. to prevent these images from visually colliding with other busy images on my blog, I experimented with occupancy a bit to tone down its features.

Customizing

This segment of creating my blog was most exciting for me. Here I learned to choose freely yet wisely. there were several images to choose from when came time to create a header for the blog. Several images caught my eye but I seemed to be most interested in the ones that were most colorful and busy. My professor brought to my attention that though the images were great images, they contained a lot of element and color that would indeed clash with the element and colors located in my assignments. I wasn’t willing to choose another image so instead we explored my options with transparency and occupancy. This allowed me to have my fun crazy images but toned down a bit so that it was still compatible to all other components on my site. I also changed the theme and color of my home page to be sure that it reflected my own personal style.

Categories

“Oh those darn categories.” Attaching a category to each blog is possibly the most elementary instruction of this process. However its the one step I seem to over-look and have to come back and add. Though this step is the simplest, its still one of the most important. This allows your reader to easily differentiate between the subjects of your content. This addition also allows those who visit the cite to easily steer through it.

Links

Adding hyperlinks to each assignment page was thankfully a uncomplicated process. I believe that this minor addition to each page allows my audience to swiftly navigate through my cite. I still don’t quite understand how, after clicking on the link icon, WordPress already has a list of my other assignments as options for me to choose from to link. Learning this skills makes me question how much I am able to attach to my cite. More specifically I would like to learn if its possible to attach outside information to the cite or is it limited to the internal content of my pages. This something I will discuss with my professor.

Images

Adding images to my site was a lot easier than I thought it would be. I felt like a proud mother when I seen all of my projects come together as one. We learned to export each assignment in a pdf which is a link that includes all dynamics of the assignment and the jpeg format, which is a visual of the assignments, in InDesign to attach them to our blogs. After that was done, the rest was easy. I simply uploaded the files through the media+ link and added them to the appropriate page. Images were only added to assignment pages as a visual for each project.Bio After adding images through the media+link a couple times I learned that I can also drag images from my desktop to the blog.

WordPress vs InDesign

Happy to say I am loving WordPress. InDesign was neat and fun but I often became lost and confused. However with WordPress the learning curve is much simpler and easy to follow. InDesign was quite complicated and required one to retain and remember several components along the way. I am grateful to have learned a bare minimum about the InDesign software for I am capable of using it now. WordPress just resulted in a equally cool creation, just without the stress and pulled out hair.
